2 Responses to Jenny Flies to Baba

  • These stories were told to me over and over again by Jenny’s and my dear Warren Hix, of his days with Jenny, since their college days (1969-) at Emory College in Atlanta.

Charles Haynes, Wendy, Jenny, Vicki Gardner (Alberts) and Janet Files were all at Emory and in Atlanta together. Charles & Jenny led Warren to Baba in ’69.

Warren related this story of Jenny, each time with uproarious laughter: Jenny was one of several bridesmaids at Wendy’s/Buz’s
wedding many years ago. I saw a lovely picture of the wedding party and Jenny’s hat looked just a bit, “off kilter”, somehow!
The bridesmaids were all in lovely, long, pink dresses, with wide brimmed hats, all around their heads.

Jenny apparently got too close to one of the reception tables, which had a lit candlearbre just below the brim of her hat!

Not realizing the eminent danger before her, her hat did actually catch on fire!
All Warren recalls happening was a slight commotion and above the “din”, was Jenny’s irrepressible and very unique laugh/joyous cackle!

Warren Hix teased Jenny mercilessly in college, much like a big brother. He continually told me about “Jenny-isms”: adorable “jeux des mots”, or very innocent plays on words. Warren and Jenny were exchanging stories of the games they played as children…Jenny related playing Peter Pan with friends and family when young and often making tents out of bed-sheets and lighting flashlights and whispering stories. Warren questioned her, further and Jenny’s
response to him finally was…”Yeah, Warren! I had a lot of adventures under the sheets when I was young!”
Kitty remarked to Warren and Jenny once of all the Baba Lovers who seemed to be ill and “dropping their bodies”. Jenny replied, “Yes, Kitty! There are a lot of “droppings” all around us, these days!”

My daughter, Sibby, was very lucky to have Jenny as her special “Baba Auntie”/God-Mother. In fact how lucky we all are to have known her in this lifetime! In the 32 years that I was blessed to have known her, she NEVER gossiped or back-bit ANYONE. I don’t think she ever had a mean bone in her body.

Not many people knew that she had been afflicted with polio when a young girl. She never talked a lot about herself and NEVER felt sorry for herself. I recall seeing a beautiful video of Jenny dancing when she lived out in California. When she told me that she had had polio when a youngster, I was taken aback and her example served me very well, in my own acceptance of having had cerebral palsy, as a child.

  • Dear Jenny was such an inspiration, embodying one of Meher Baba’s Wishes for His Lovers:
    CHEERFULNESS!
May the memory of her life cheer us on.
